Rihanna's Man Down Video Draws Controversy From Parent Advocacy Group

Rihanna video which was suppose to bring awareness to domestic violence has back fired.

"Thank you for the amazing response on ManDownVideo I love you guys, and I love that u GOT IT!!!" the pop diva tweeted yesterday after the video for "Man Down," which features a scene in which Rihanna systematically shoots a man dead in retaliation for raping her, premiered on BET.

Not everyone who watched jumped on the female-empowerment train, however.  The Parents Television Council, a non-profit organization that advocates responsible entertainment, is blasting the red-haired singer for “cold, calculated execution of murder” in her latest video, reports TMZ.

The council is outraged at Rihanna’s suggestion that killing a rapist is a proper form of justice and doesn’t agree with her rationale that it sends “a very strong underlying message 4 girls like me.”

“If Chris Brown shot a woman in his new video and BET premiered it, the world would stop. Rihanna should not get a pass,” said PTC, who also chided BET for airing the video.

Moreover, Rihanna missed a "golden opportunity," according to the PTC.

"Rihanna's personal story and status as a celebrity superstar provided a golden opportunity for the singer to send an important message to female victims of rape and domestic violence," said Melissa Henson, director of communications and public education for the PTC. "Instead of telling victims they should seek help, Rihanna released a music video that gives retaliation in the form of premeditated murder the imprimatur of acceptability."
