Tyrese Allegedly Punches Pregnant Girlfriend

TMZ has learned that police are conducting a criminal investigation into allegations that R & B singer Tyrese punched his pregnant girlfriend in the arm and thigh early this morning. Police sources tell us that Tyrese's live-in girlfriend claimed that the two got into a heated argument around 5:30 AM at their Los Angeles home. According to our sources, paramedics responded after Tyrese allegedly struck the woman, who is three months pregnant, twice and then drove away from the scene. Apparently he's hiding out from his professional responsibilities too. According to a source, Tyrese was scheduled to call in to Sacramento's KSFM 102.5 morning show today to chat about the upcoming "Transformers" movie, but never did. Crocodile Hunter’s Wife Receives Video of Husband’s Death

SYDNEY, Australia - Authorities gave the video of "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin's fatal encounter with a stingray to his family and destroyed all copies to prevent the grisly footage from being made public, an Australian state coroner said Thursday. ADVERTISEMENT Irwin, 44, died on Sept. 4 after being stabbed in the chest by the stingray's poisonous barb while filming a documentary on the Great Barrier Reef off the Queensland coast. Queensland State Coroner Michael Barnes said authorities gave the original video to his wife, Terri, in late December and destroyed other copies. "The footage has been the subject of widespread media interest and it was wholly appropriate that we took all possible steps to ensure something of such a personal and tragic nature did not fall into the wrong hands," Barnes said in a statement. "This is in line with the wishes of the Irwin family." Police made a small number of copies of the video to assist their inquiry into the cause of Irwin's death, but they were kept under tight security throughout the investigation, the coroner's office said. Speculation had been rife that footage of Irwin's death could eventually be posted on the Internet. Calls to the Irwin family's Australia Zoo were not immediately returned Thursday, but in an interview with U.S. television last September, Terri Irwin, originally of Eugene, Ore., said the video should never see the light of day. "What purpose would that serve?" she told ABC's Barbara Walters, adding that she herself had not seen the video. Irwin's friend and business partner, John Stainton, has seen the film. He told Walters he never wants to see it again and doesn't want anyone else to see it, either. "It's just a horrible piece of film tape," he said. The death of the exuberant television entertainer and conservationist set off an unprecedented outpouring of grief. Tens of thousands traveled to Irwin's zoo near Brisbane to drop off flowers and other mementoes, many of them signing khaki shirts instead of a condolence book.

I LOVE NEW YORK PREVIEW EPOSIDE 1

Whitney Houston Puts Bras On the Block

Grammy-winning diva Whitney Houston is selling off hundreds of stage outfits and accessories, including intimate undergarments, at an Irvington, New Jersey, auction next Tuesday that could bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars in welcome cash, the New York Post's Page Six reports. Among the items on the block are various bustier bras adorned with animal prints and sequins; four velvet bodysuits with "WH" logos, evening dresses, musical instruments, a slot machine, a leather whip and a chair described as "Whitney's throne" (late 90s-era crack pipe, evidently, sold separately). Also on the block? 16 assorted music awards of estranged husband Bobby Brown (Houston filed for divorce from her husband of 14 years last September). Though the New York Daily News reports that the auction is happening because Houston, 43, hasn’t paid her storage bills since 2005, Houston's rep, Nancy Seltzer, tells the Post that the sale of 335 items has nothing to do with money problems. "Many artists get rid of the old stage equipment and costuming they don't need any more. That is what is happening," she said. We know we should probably be most interested in Whit’s underthings decorated like bedazzled beasts of the forest. However, it’s the whip and throne that really stand out from the competition here. That’s how we like to imagine Whit: In a monogrammed velvet bodysuit on a gilded chair looking like a guest star on a very luxurious episode of Star Trek, riding crop in hand while playing the slots. After all, if you can’t be the Queen of your own Kingdom of Insanity, no one else is going to do it for you.

Oscars won't 'Listen' to Beyonce; she's disqualified in song race

You can not only forget about Beyonce Knowles winning an Oscar for best actress this year. (If you haven't heard, a certain ingenue keeps upstaging her throughout "Dreamgirls." And in the race for best comedy/musical actress at the Globes, she's up against a real devil — Meryl Streep — who knows a lot about winning that award.) Now it looks like Beyonce won't win an Oscar as a songwriter either — for "Listen," one of the original new tunes added to the original Broadway score. Officially, she's listed as one of the song's four writers, but the motion-picture academy only permits three names — max — as a credit. To see the specific language of its Rule 16 — CLICK HERE! Oscar Rule 16 is fairly new, by the way. At the 2003 derby, seven people were cited as cowriters of "Accidentally in Love" from "Shrek 2." In 1981, four folks won for writing "'Arthur's' Theme." Oscar guru Wayman Wong asserts that limiting the number of songwriters to three "is kinda arbitrary," adding, "The Oscars, of course, give out four Oscars in other categories, like visual effects and sound." However, the academy does limit the number of producers who get credit for best picture to three in its Rule 17 CLICK HERE. The Oscars' songwriting branch has decided to qualify only Henry Krieger, Anne Preven and Scott Cutler for writing "Listen." No explanation is given for why Beyonce is excluded over the others. Is this just one of those cases of where the singer insisted upon having her name added to credits as part of her performance deal? In media interviews, she's often said that she was truly involved in its songwriting. Apparently, not to the extent as her three collaborators, according to the Oscars. Notice some info posted in the "Comments" section of this blog piece — from poster named Nick. He provides a link to an article about the writing of "Crazy in Love," which earned Beyonce and cohorts the Grammy for best R&B song of 2003, an award bestowed to songwriters. CLICK HERE to read what her actual involvement was in its composition. In fact, it notes that she wrote the song's bridge section. Thanks for adding this insight and link, Nick! Take heart, Beyonce fans. Not only is she nominated in the actress race at the Globes, but she'll be among the people who share the credit for "Listen" if it wins best song there. And it probably will OFFICIAL WORD FROM THE ACADEMY: Beyonce's rep Alan Nierob says, "It's wrong to say that Beyonce was disqualified because she never qualified. Beyonce is aware of the Oscar rule that says only three songwriters can be nominated. It's all about percentages — how much each person contributed to the song. Beyonce contributed greatly to 'Listen,' but her percentage is lower, so she didn't expect to be eligible for nomination. She's very happy that her co-writers may be recognized." Nierob confirms that Beyonce is officially credited as a best-song nominee at the Golden Globes

Kid Rock Attempts To Kick Tommy Lee’s A..S!! in Las Vegas

Kid Rock has surpassed “charmingly aggressive” and has graduated to the “scarily violent” stage. The "Bawitdaba" singer (who officially looks ready to star in the TNT original movie ZZ Top: The Early Years) has it out for rocker Tommy Lee but wasn’t letting a little thing like doors stand in his way over holiday weekend. When Rock, 35, heard that Lee, 44, was in Las Vegas to play The Joint with his band Rock Star Supernova, he headed over to his hotel room to “kick some serious ass,” a source tells Page Six. "Kid is divorcing Pam Anderson, but he heard [her ex] Tommy was hooking up with her, and got all riled up," says the source. "So he went over at 6 a.m. with two bodyguards, and began kicking down what he thought was Tommy's door. Only it wasn't -- and Kid found himself staring at some poor, startled family. He signed an autograph for them as security arrived, then bolted over to the Paradise strip club." Lee's rep tells the New York Post, "Tommy is aware that this incident occurred, but wasn't at the time as he was staying on another floor." While Rock was clearly in the holiday spirit of giving when he elected to sign an autograph for the startled, non-Tommy family before his departure, the real gift was supplying the clan with a post-Christmas story for the ages that starts, “Remember the year Kid Rock kicked in our door in Vegas?” However, next time, Rock should consider going the extra mile in his almsgiving. “Remember the year Kid Rock kicked in our door in Vegas and then apologized by taking us out for celebratory lap dances?” makes for a more riveting tale, and is fun for the whole family.

JIGGA & BEYONCE NEW YEARS IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

(WITH THE LOCALS) THEY ARE SO CUTE!!!

SPRINT EMPLOYEE FIRED OVER LUDACRIS BOOKING: Woman tried to hire rapper for office party; boss accused of discrimination.

*A white woman formerly employed at Sprint Nextel Corp. says she was fired after securing rapper Ludacris to perform at a company party, supposedly without first obtaining permission of her boss, reports the Kansas City Star. In a lawsuit filed last month in federal court in Kansas City, Kan., Elizabeth Henry says her boss approved a “Rock Star” theme for an event in Las Vegas that was to reward the company’s top call center workers. Heeding their pleas for an African American entertainer at the event, Henry’s choice of Ludacris and LL Cool J were approved by her boss, the lawsuit states. Henry eventually secured Ludacris, but problems began after another employee allegedly told her boss that “she must be into the black thing” because Ludacris was retained, according to the lawsuit. Henry said she informed her boss that Ludacris’ performance would stick to “PG-13 standards” but if she was still concerned, Henry could get another performer. She reminded her boss that the call center employees requested an African-American entertainer. Her boss allegedly responded that any black performer would be controversial. Henry called the remark discriminatory. After a nearly five-hour interrogation session by the company’s corporate security officers, Henry said she was cleared of any wrongdoing and received no reprimand. Planning for the event, however, was handed over to Sprint’s events marketing team. Later that same day, Henry alleges, her boss told her she was fired. “She said she was terminating her for insubordination,” said Henry’s lawyer, Brendan J. Donelon of the Donelon Law Office. “She said it had to do with the fact that she retained Ludacris as the entertainer without her permission. I think what happened is that her boss approved it and didn’t think anything of it until somebody said, ‘Hey, have you ever listened to their music or know who they are?’ and her boss was like, ‘Whoa, wait a minute.’” Meanwhile, the event that was to feature Ludacris never took place. Henry has since found other employment, but at a third the salary she made at Sprint. Her suit seeks unspecified damages for retaliation.

Jennifer Hudson: Jamie Foxx Helped Mentor Me

2007 looks to be Jennifer Hudson's year – already she says she "can't go anywhere" without being recognized – and the breakaway star of Dreamgirls closed out the old year Saturday night with a sold-out concert at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom. Most of the songs she performed were from her new hit movie, in which she plays the star-crossed singer Effie White, though the former American Idol contestant also delivered some numbers from that TV show, including the one she belted before being eliminated: "Weekend in New England." After the live performance, Hudson, 25, spoke to PEOPLE, touching upon her hard-earned, newly found success, Jamie Foxx's support and how the fans now just won't leave her alone. PEOPLE: How does this New Year's differ from last year's? Not last year, because I had already got the part, but the year before that I had no clue where I would become now ... So, I got kind of emotional out there tonight doing "Weekend in New England," because that was the song I was eliminated off of, and then to not know where I was going to go from there, and then to be able to stand on this stage tonight about three years later. At that moment I was like, "Oh, my God." Do you have any immediate plans for '07? I plan on moving into my own place, finally. So that is what I am looking forward to in the New Year. Is there someone in your life? Well, (James and I have) been together forever, eight years now. We grew up together. He was my brother's best friend." Your Dreamgirls costar Jamie Foxx was one of your most ardent supporters, wasn't he? Jamie would call me every Sunday during the summer. It would never fail, and the first time he called I was like, "Oh, my God. Jamie Foxx just called me!" But he was so supportive, so sweet so helpful ... during filming. And he came to me at the end of filming and he pulled me to the side and he was like, "I didn't want to distract you while you were working, but now that we're at the end, I can say what I want to say." And he was like, "You know what? We really think you did something special. I feel like you're about ready to go down the same road that I just experienced (winning an Oscar for her performance in Ray), and if I can do anything to mentor you and help you out, I'd be happy to." What was it like being America's favorite underdog? I'm no different (from) anybody else. I'm just a girl who seemed to get a chance, and I'm glad to be able to represent the average girl. (But now) I can't go anywhere. The other day I tried to go in Sprint (with) my sister, and people were calling people on the phone, like, "Oh, my God, you have to come meet Jennifer Hudson." Bringing them out of their houses. Then they went and got people out of their cars, and I had to sign autographs on all their receipts, and I was like, "I can't go anywhere."

JESSICA SIMPSON & JOHN MAYER TAKE THERE RELATIONSHIP PUBLIC

Now that Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey have finalized their divorce and settled their estate, Jessica is finally taking her relationship with John Mayer public. Simpson, 26, and Mayer, 29, spent a romantic weekend together in NYC, where the pop starlet was heard referring to the rocker as her “boyfriend.” "They are dating,” a source close to Mayer tells Us Weekly. “They're boyfriend and girlfriend. She flew into NY and stayed at his place." On December 30, the couple enjoyed a late lunch of tacos and passion fruit margaritas at the Mexican eatery Dos Caminos in SoHo (“He paid and they held hands on the way out the door,” says a witness). Later that afternoon, they hit Barneys New York for a pre-New Year’s shopping date. "John smiled playfully at Jessica as he held her arm," says an onlooker. "They were really affectionate. They didn't seem to care who saw them. They were out and proud as a couple and Jessica looked so happy." Mayer strolled over to the adjacent men’s store to search for grooming products, while Jessica browsed the accessories department. When she found a necklace that struck her fancy, Simpson told an employee she wanted to get Mayer’s opinion before deciding to buy it. "I don't know,” she hedged. “I'm waiting for my boyfriend.” When Mayer arrived, she modeled jewelry for him. "They seemed almost like a married couple,” shopper Stacy Thompson tells Us. “They both looked really happy and she looked beautiful.” After the duo paid for their purchases, they prepared to leave, with Simpson hugging him tightly from behind while resting her head on his back. The pair was still going strong the following night. Just after 2 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, they arrived at a Hudson Hotel party, plopping down on a couch in the V.I.P. area, as Simpson nuzzled Mayer’s face and put her leg up on his lap. Mayer kissed Jessica’s head before getting up and mingling with the crowd. Jessica kept to herself on the couch but smiled whenever John sat back down with her. At around 3:00 a.m. the couple, joined by gossip blogger Perez Hilton, headed off to NYC club Stereo and into 2007 together.

BUSTA RHYMES BEATS UP HIS EMPLOYEE THE DAY AFTER CHRISTMAS WHAT A SCROOGE

January 1, 2007 -- Busta is going to get busted again according to page 6 Cops plan to charge rascally rapper Busta Rhymes with assault after he allegedly beat up an employee the day after Christmas, law-enforcement sources said. The hip-hop star, who is out of the country, will be hit with charges when he returns after New Year's Day, the sources said. His lawyer, Robert Kalina, did not return a message left at his home. The bust-up allegedly took place Dec. 26 in Rhymes' office at 84 W. Broadway near City Hall. Eddie Hatchett, 39, who worked as one of Rhymes' drivers, filed a police complaint saying he went to see the rapper at 7 p.m. to collect money he was owed, the sources said. Instead of taking out his wallet, the rapper put up his fists, Hatchett claimed. Rhymes landed a number of punches, including one that struck Hatchett's face and caused a laceration, the driver said. On Dec. 27, Hatchett, who lives in Brooklyn, tried to file a complaint at the 83rd Precinct station house near his home. Officers directed him to the 1st Precinct station house in lower Manhattan, where the alleged assault occurred. Hatchett filed his charges there. Police contacted Kalina and learned that Rhymes is out of the country, possibly in Africa, according to the sources. The lawyer agreed that the star would come in and talk to cops once he returns, the sources said. Cops plan to charge him with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor. Hatchett initially declined to discuss the case last night. Then he said, "I'm just an average Joe trying to support my family." Rhymes, 34, whose real name is Trevor Smith, lives in Baldwin, L.I. He is already facing charges of assault, attempted assault and harassment for allegedly beating up a fan who spit on a car in the star's entourage on West 19th Street Aug. 12. Cops say Rhymes repeatedly kicked Roberto Lebron in the head and body, giving him cuts, bruises and a concussion. Prosecutors offered a plea deal of six months behind bars, but the rapper, who topped the charts this year with the song "Touch It," declined the offer.

OPRAH SCHOOL IN SOUTH AFRICA SCHEDULED TO OPEN...

US talk show queen Oprah Winfrey is due to open her long-awaited school tomorrow, fulfilling a promise she made to former president Nelson Mandela six years ago and giving more than 150 poor South African girls a chance for a better future. Mandela was invited to be among the dignitaries at the opening of the lavish Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in the small town of Henley-on-Klip, south of Johannesburg, as well as a string of international celebrities, though the guest list was kept secret. Oprah said she decided to build her own school because she was tired of charity from a distance. “When I first started making a lot of money, I really became frustrated with the fact that all I did was write cheque after cheque to this or that charity without really feeling like it was a part of me,” she said in an interview with Newsweek magazine. “At a certain point, you want to feel that connection.” The $40m (€30.3m) academy aims to give 152 girls from deprived backgrounds a quality education in a country in which schools are struggling to overcome the legacy of apartheid. Heightening concerns about declining standards in South Africa’s schooling system, the education department said last week that the school-leaving matriculation exam pass rate had dropped for the third straight year. This year’s matriculation class, which started school the same year as multiracial elections in 1994, was dubbed ”Madiba’s Children” after the clan name for Mandela, who came to power with the onset of democracy. Yet two thirds of the 1,667,000 children who started school 12 years ago dropped out, and only 5% of the total intake are eligible to go to university. “We know that we still have much to do to guarantee proper education for our children, as well as provide the necessary training for those who need the skills that our society end economy demand,” President Thabo Mbeki said in a new-year message.

Michael Jackson Steals James Brown's Spotlight -- at Funeral!

It was near pandemonium during the Godfather of Soul's final viewing when Michael Jackson entered the James Brown Arena. The packed house screamed as the reclusive King of Pop stopped by to pay his respects with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. "James Brown is my greatest inspiration, ever since I was a small child," said Jackson, who wore a black leather suit and dark sunglasses. "When I saw him move, I was mesmerized. I've never seen a performer perform like James Brown, and right then and there, I knew that was exactly what I wanted to do for the rest of my life." He then bent down and kissed Brown's forehead.
