Sean “Diddy” Combs is taking on his most ambitious project yet — putting together his own backup band with a selection of undiscovered musicians in his new show, Making His Band, which premiered yesterday on MTV. Competing for one of the slots in Diddy’s band is songstress Jaila Simms, a 27-year-old trans woman who hopes to win a spot as one of Diddy’s backup singers.
Three years ago, Simms began his transition from male to female, but that didn’t stop her career — it simply changed the roles that she was able to audition for.
But now, she hopes to be chosen as one of the talents that will accompany Diddy on his next tour to promote his new album, Last Train to Paris.
