Bosses at sportswear firm Reebok have dumped rapper Rick Ross as a brand spokesman following the controversy surrounding his date-rape lyrics in Rocko’s new song “U.O.E.N.O. (You Ain’t Even Know It).”
The hip-hop star sparked a storm of protest from women’s rights groups with his ill-advised rap, in which he joked about putting Ecstasy in a girl’s champagne.
Ross rhymed, “Put Molly all in the champagne. She ain’t even know it. I took her home and I enjoy that. She ain’t even know it.”The rap star has since apologized for the lyrics, but that wasn’t enough for activists, who called on Reebok bosses to drop him as an ambassador.
The international sneaker brand also released a statement:
Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so. While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse.
Welp, I know the ‘Fat Man’ is mad about this one. This goes to show that we the consumer have the actual control. Celebrities should never get too comfortable.
