Atlanta producer/actor/entrepreneur Tyler Perry has been busy filling Christmas stockings this season, helping a few charities in need. His largest gift, $250,000, went to the NAACP as part of an ongoing commitment. He also gave $50,000 to Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless, a feeding and housing program created by the late civil rights pioneer Hosea Williams.
Perry also gave $5,000 to a Cherokee County therapeutic equestrian program that was burglarized last month; and $14,000 to chess champion Orrin Hudson’s Be Someone program, which teaches chess to at-risk children.
The check to Hudson was to help bring his Stone Mountain youth center up to code: The county requires a minimum number of parking spaces at such facilities, and the grading and paving would have cost $28,000, Hudson said. Hudson already had $14,000 committed by an anonymous donor, and Perry matched that amount.
“We are training champions here at Be Someone, and Mr. Perry has been our champion today,” Hudson said. “He’s a spiritual person,” Elisabeth Omilami said. “What he has is God-given, and to give back is critical to him.”Read More Click Now
