MARIAH SLEEPS ON A SAUNA BED

Just when you thought Mariah Carey slumbered on a flock of butterflies every night comes the slightly less weird news that she sleeps in a sauna on a bed comprised of towels. The singer says she keeps her sleeping quarters like a steam room in order to keep her vocal chords at their most hydrated. (Where was this room on The Barbara Walters Special when we were forced to spend 10 minutes in her mildly terrifying Hello Kitty bathroom?) “Literally I’ll have twenty humidifiers around the bed,” Carey tells V magazine via MSNBC’s The Scoop. “Basically it’s like sleeping in a steam room. The bed is all terry-cloth, the ceiling is pitched so the water can’t fall on my head, and it drips down to my side, and the TV is behind glass.” Carey, 37, also said that the media is responsible for her sexualized persona “I think that a lot of women are just trying to live up to the stereotypes and to the standard that’s set on TV and in magazines, which is airbrushed women who weigh 3 pounds,” she said. “And it’s not fair. It’s not easy. But everybody gets really protective of me. They’re, like, ‘Be less sexy.’” She said that if she does overdo the sexy look “it’s not intentional — if you film my body a certain way, it’s gonna look like a certain way. But honestly, I’ve been the same way since I was a little kid. Like, I’m just emulating whatever’s on a magazine.” It’s fairly ballsy to blame your sexy image on a camera angle when you show up to the opening of Oprah’s South African girls school wearing a plunging, skin-tight zebra print dress (above). But we’ll let it go if only because the image of Carey reclining on her bath towel diva cradle, watching the Care Bears in steamy splendor from behind glass in order to avoid electrocution is going to keep us going for weeks
