The Shonda Rhimes produced legal drama will air at 10pm, while “Grey’s Anotomy” has been moved up to 8pm and “Scandal” to 9pm.
The resulting line-up has produced for the first time in network history, a block of programming all from the same creator. ABC is apparently betting Shonda, who reportedly just signed an eight figure deal with the network, can help dig them out of their overall third place finish among the top four networks last season.Word has it ABC is also betting on black women (sound familiar) and multi-ethnic casts to boost ratings. Apparently taking notes from shows like Sleepy Hollow and Elementary, the powers that be are looking to tap into a market they had previously chosen to underserve.
Nevertheless, I plan to support Viola’s first gig as a network lead, and hope to see more minority women taking the lead in future shows.
