STYLE BREAKDOWN: RIHANNA MET GALA BOOTS

At Monday’s Met Gala, the arrival of Rihanna clad in Comme des Garçons was one of the evening’s most talked-about moments and nailed the avant-garde theme of the night in one fell swoop. But her fashion-forward wardrobe didn’t stop on the red carpet.

After the ball, the pop star swapped out her frilly confection for Prada’s feather-trimmed pajama set, and yesterday evening in New York, she took elements of both pre- and post-Met looks for a spin in New York.

Rihanna’s oversize trenchcoat brought drama and volume to the street, while the vintage concert tee was a casual compliment to the theatrical piece. She chose to wear a pair of Unravel gladiator sandals that were remarkably similar to the pair she wore to the Met. 

The trend is hardly what you might call practical—in an interview with André Leon Talley at the gala, she admitted that it took almost an hour to get into them—call it a trend that’s as hard to pull off as it is to pull on.
