NETFLIX TO REMAKE SPIKE LEE'S "SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT"

Netflix has given the go ahead to the long-delayed remake of Spike Lee’s 1986 cult classic She’s Gotta Have It. According to published reports, the streaming channel has put in a 10-episode order, which they hope to have ready for a fall 2017 debut. Lee will direct all 10 episodes, while his wife, who Lee says came
came up with the idea to turn the film into a move. Lee willl also act as executive producer.over the series.

She’s Gotta Have It was Spike’s first film and revolved around protagonist Nola Darling, a sexually liberated artist who has her hands full juggling three lovers. The film was made for less than $100,000, but went on to gross over $8,000,000 at the domestic box office. It was also one of the first mainstream films to be slapped with an X rating by the Motion Picture Association of America.

No word whether the series will be just as provocative, but I’m personally hoping it will. I’m also hoping my favorite actress, Nicole Beharie, is cast in the lead role. From the moment I heard about the remake back in 2014, I knew this would be an excellent vehicle for Nicole to shine on her own. I’m also pretty desperate to see her back on my TV screen every week.

Here’s hoping the Lees and Netflix really put some thought into the casting of Nola.
