Black History Month: Focus on Diabetes - Pattie La Belle and Lovie Smith

In honor of February Black History Month  KeyVive, a lifestyle site dedicated to diabetes, is putting out articles focusing on African-Americans who have suffered from diabetes. There are several well know celebrities who suffer from Diabetes Halle Berry, Pattie La Belle and Chicago Bears Coach Lovie Smith just to name a few who are living with the disease. KeyVive has put together some interesting articles on Patti La Belle and Lovie Smith that I think you might find interesting. I'm sure all of us can think of someone, family members or  maybe friends who suffer from this non-curable disease.

The numbers are very high for African-Americans who are affected by the disease to give you an idea--1.8 percent of African Americans aged  20 years or older are more likely to have diabetes and 25 percent of African Americans between the ages of 65 and 74 have diabetes (Source: American Diabetes Association)

Keyvive.com is a wonderful source that features news, videos and advice for people living with diabetes. Additionally the site aims to help consumers who may be at risk of getting the disease or who think they are affected.
