OPRAH HAULS GIRLS ACADEMY TO PRIMETIME: One-hour special to chronicle experience of building girls school in South Africa.
*Oprah Winfrey’s five-year experience of building a school for disadvantaged girls in South Africa will be stuffed into a one-hour ABC special scheduled to air on the final Monday of February sweeps.
"Building a Dream: The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy," premiering at 10 p.m. on Feb. 26, will chronicle the talk show host's planning and construction of a 28-building campus boasting computer and science laboratories, a library, a beauty salon, a theater and a wellness centeR.
The $40 million school in the small town of Henley-on-Klip, south of Johannesburg, had a star-studded opening in January attended by former South African President Nelson Mandela and such celebrities as Tina Turner, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Sidney Poitier, Chris Tucker and Spike Lee.
