Alicia Keys is taking no days off. In between her new role on “The Voice” and prepping her sixth album for release this fall, the R&B songstress unleashes “Back to Life,” a new song from Disney’s upcoming film Queen of Katwe.
Over inspirational strings, the “Girl on Fire” belts out a moving ode to resilience. “I’m just trying to hold onto a dream,” she sings. “Out here lost and nothing’s what it seems / I’m just trying to find where I belong / This must be the dark before the dawn.”
Queen of Katwe, the story of Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi, stars David Oyelowo, Lupita Nyong’o, and Madina Nalwanga, and arrives in theaters Sept. 23. Listen to “Back to Life” below.
After a lengthy standoff with the Los Angeles Police Department, Chris Brown has been arrested and will be booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Baylee Curran accused Brown of threatening her with a gun while at his Tarzana, Calif. home. The former beauty queen, who had partied with Brown in the past, claims an argument arose after she admired some of his jewelry. The singer allegedly demanded that she “get the f*** out” and pointed a gun at her. Officers responded to the scene around 3 a.m. on Tuesday (Aug. 30) following a 911 call from a woman requesting help. Curran filed a police report and cops obtained a search warrant.
During the investigation, Brown reportedly threw a duffel bag out his window that contained two guns and drugs, according to TMZ. After throwing the bag, Breezy yelled “come and get me,” as per multiple sources.
He is being taken to the Robbery Homicide Division of the LAPD for questioning.
Earlier in the day, Brown took to social media to deny the accusations.
“I’m sleep half the damn night,” he said in one Instagram video. “I just wake up and all these motherfuckin’ helicopter choppers is around, police out there at the gate. Come on, my ni**a. What the fuck else y’all want from me, bro? I stay out of the way, take care of my daughter, do work. I don’t even fuck ugly bitches, triflin’ bitches. Whatever the fuck it is, I’m not on that, bro…I’m innocent. Fuck everybody.”
Brown completed five years of felony probation in March 2015 after pleading guilty to felony assault in his case involving Rihanna. His peers including Omarion and K. Michelle took to Twitter to share their support.
Blac Chyna wearing Palace Costumes Until now, biographies of Chyna have been cobbled together from gossip stories, rap songs and social media posts. They have the basic facts down (she was born in Washington D.C., danced at Miami’s famous King of Diamonds strip club, got a shoutout on Drake’s 2010 track “Miss Me,” dated and had a son with Tyga before getting together with Rob Kardashian) but not much else. “I don’t do interviews, and I haven’t spoken publicly in years,” she explains. But now, with her decision to film a reality show, she’s finally ready to open up and let fans get a glimpse into her private world. “I’m excited about fans getting to know me as a person and not as a thing or a face,” she says. “I’m funny and smart, and they’ll see me as a mom with several businesses just keeping everything together. I’m looking forward to showing my relationship with Rob, our day to day, our struggles and what we’re dealing with, positive and negative.” She adds, “I hope when people think about Blac Chyna, they think of a mogul and entrepreneur, a mother and a badass bitch.” Set Designer: Ali Magidan Hair: Kellon Deryck Makeup: Emily Moses at Opus Beauty using Chanel Les Beiges Nails: Lisa Pena Wong at Opus Beauty using Dior Vernis and Maxus Nail Strengthener Photographer Assistants: Isaiah Teofilo and Savannah Davis Location: Edge Studio
